Doing Hair Care Sustainably

When it comes to hair care, I've tried them all: Drugstore brands, higher-end brands, and even some hair salon lines. I tend to get into brand trends for a few months at a time, and find that switching it up keeps my hair and skin away from getting overly dependent on one kind. However, since I began coloring my hair a few years back, I've had to keep an even closer eye out for sulfate-free products that are color safe, and actually work to put moisture back into my dryer strands.

A few months ago, I discovered Blu Babassu, a cruelty, paraben, sulfate, and toxin-free line. Because the shampoo is made without salts, the product allows chemical treatments like dying and straightening to last longer, while preserving the natural oils on your scalp. When Blu Babassu reached out and asked me to try out their products, I was a bit hesitant due to the fact that I hadn't heard of them before. The first question out of my mouth was, "what is the ingredient list?" When told that there are only 10 ingredients in the shampoo, I knew I had to do a bit more research before committing.

When questioning Blue Babassu about the ethics of of their production, I was thrilled to learn that  Blu Babassu products are consciously, sustainable, and ethically sourced ingredients, all environmentally friendly. I found out that the company supports the development and sustainability of rural communities in Bolivia by buying the oil and nuts from "quebradeiras", women who gather the Babassu nuts from the ground, without harming the environment.

Now let's talk about the active ingredient itself: Babassu Oil. This is a palm oil rich in lauric acid and antioxidants like vitamin E, exclusively found in the Amazon region of Bolivia and Brazil. It is one of Earth's most moisturizing oils, dubbed "a hidden beauty treasure" from the Amazon. Ok, say no more. Sign me up!

Blu Babassu believes that "Shower Time is sacred. Make it what you want it to be." When using BB's shampoo and conditioner, one of the first things you'll experience are the sweet aromas that I can best describe as subtle hints of vanilla, coconut and lily. If there's anything I want shower time to be, it is relaxing, rejuvenating and purifying! Being surrounded with these natural scents really contributes to my "me" time in the tub.

I now use Blu Babassu as my primary shampoo and conditioner and love knowing that using their products is helping to contribute in an environmentally impactful way. Go check out their products and please leave a comment if you end up giving them a try - I'd love to know what you think!

Sincerely,
Julie
